Our faculty was established by the Council of Ministers’ decision No. 2012/3527, and the decision published in the Official Gazette No. 28405 dated September 8, 2012, is as follows:
“The establishment of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences under the Afyon Kocatepe University Rectorate; upon the proposal and letter of the Ministry of National Education, in accordance with the Additional Article 30 of Law No. 2809 dated March 28, 1983, was decided by the Council of Ministers on July 25, 2012.”
Prof. Dr. Remzi KAYA was appointed as the founding dean of our faculty by the letter of the Presidency of the Higher Education Council dated December 28, 2012, and numbered 464-13348. With the 2013 quota of the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), a total of 160 students were admitted to our Faculty, including 80 in the first education program and 80 in the second education program, to the Department of Islamic Sciences, and 60 students to the Department of Religious Culture and Ethics Teaching, for a total of 220 quotas, and thus, education and training began in the 2013 -2014 academic year.
The name of our faculty, previously known as the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, was changed to “Faculty of Theology” by a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette on September 15, 2023.
